Professional Goals
Melanie has a deep love of music and has a very strong desire to share that with others. Melanie believes that the best way to do this is by instilling that love and appreciation in the young child. She relates very well to the elementary ages and possesses a natural ability to explain with understanding and excite her students about whatever she may be teaching. Melanie is very interested in the pedagogy and process of learning, and makes every effort to assess and cater to her students' learning needs so that each child may reach his or her potential, not only as a musician but as a well balanced student and member of society.
Melanie's instrumental and choral backgrounds serve to make her a strong musician, and therefore a better teacher. Melanie strives to keep her personal musicianship at the highest level through collaboration with area musicians, as well as regional and national workshops and symposiums.
Melanie hopes to enjoy teaching music in the elementary setting for many years. Her main goal in her current school setting is to build a strong program and help it grow and develop over an extended period of time. Eventually, Melanie would like to continue her education in a PhD program and teach music and pedagogy at the college level to aspiring new teachers.
